鼎是木上有火：以木烧火，鼎中烹煮。占鼎，讲的是「转化」——把原材料变成能用、能养人的东西。鼎是古代的重器，代表「位」和「命」：卦辞说「正位凝命」——把位置摆正，把使命定住。鼎最凶的一爻是「鼎折足，覆公餗」：底下撑不住，好东西全洒了。
